What is sorghum? - Sorghum is an all natural sweetener that is made from the juice of a plant called, "Sweet sorghum cane."
Why do you say sorghum is "all natural?" - After the sorghum cane is harvested, it is put into a press and all the natural juices are squeezed out of the cane. The sorghum juice is then heated and all the impurities rise to the top. The impurities are then skimmed off and removed. As the impurities are boiled off, the water in the plant is evaporated, and the juice thickens to the consistency of syrup. What is left is the sorghum syrup, with no chemical additives or preservatives.
What does a sorghum cane plant look like? - A sorghum cane plant looks like a stalk of corn without any ears of corn on it.
What vitamins and minerals does all natural sorghum have? - Sorghum is high in potassium and protein. Other nutrients include calcium, iron and phosphorous. For a full list of all the different nutrients, click here.

What is so special about Townsend’s Sorghum? - We are currently the fifth generation of Townsends that are making sorghum. Our family has been growing sorghum cane and producing sweet sorghum syrup for over 100 years on our family farm. Our sorghum has been crowned the National Champion sorghum by the members of the National Sweet Sorghum Producers and Processors Association on more than one occasion. We think that our sorghum is special because we LOVE sorghum.
