What's the Difference?

What's the Difference?
Townsend’s Sorghum - An all natural sweetener that is derived from the sorghum cane plant. Our sorghum contains no chemical additives or preservatives. Good sorghum is thick like honey although it is slightly darker in color and has a sweeter taste. Townsend’s Sorghum is high in nutritional value and contains such nutrients like potassium, protein, phosphorous, iron and calcium.

Molasses - Molasses is derived from sugar cane. It is created when is extracted when sugar cane is refined to make sugar crystals. It is the part of sugar cane that wasn’t sweet enough to become table sugar. Because it is processed, molasses has virtually no nutritional value. Molasses is thinner than sorghum and can have a bitter taste. Molasses was originally exported to the United States from the West Indies to make rum.

Corn Syrup - Corn syrup comes from corn starch. It’s the sugar called glucose. It is used extensively in processed foods and many types of soft drink beverages. It comes in two forms: light (transparent in color) and dark (which a caramel coloring like molasses has been added). Light corn syrup has virtually no taste.

Maple Syrup - Maple syrup comes from the sap of a maple tree. The sap is harvested from the maple tree and then boiled until it thickens up. Maple syrup has a reddish brown color.
